15 November 2023
Congratulations to Andrea Maker
FocusMaine’s New President
We are delighted to announce Andrea Cianchette Maker, co-founder and co-chair of FocusMaine, has been named president!
“It’s an exciting time for FocusMaine, as we are seeing our unique approach to economic development for Maine having a real impact on key economic sectors. I can’t think of anyone better prepared to lead us into the next phase of our work—or more passionate about our mission—than Andrea.” Michael Dubyak, co-founder and co-chair of FocusMaine
A passionate advocate for positive change, Andrea is a visionary and action-oriented leader known for her ability to conceptualize and advance agendas that drive growth for individuals, organizations, and Maine’s economy. She and Mike Dubyak founded FocusMaine in 2014 to enhance opportunity and prosperity for Maine families.
“I’m honored to step into this role. I’m proud of what FocusMaine has accomplished and excited about what lies ahead. Last year, our strategic review affirmed that the signature industries we identified seven years ago are still vital to Maine’s economic growth potential and are ripe for our continued support.” – Andrea C. Maker, president, co-chair & co-founder of FocusMaine
In the past five years, FocusMaine catalyzed $176.5 million in sales revenue, nearly $50 million in earnings, and over 900 direct, indirect, and induced jobs throughout the state. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics data, from 2017-2022, all of FocusMaine’s sectors – Agriculture, Aquaculture, and Biopharma – outpaced both historical and projected job growth in the US and for the state’s economy overall.
Andrea previously chaired the Government Relations Practice at Pierce Atwood LLP, where she represented numerous clients in their growth strategies, with a concentration on public policy and environmental compliance. She co-founded the predecessor to Educate Maine and served on the Commission on Maine’s Future and the Commission on the Future of Maine’s Paper Industry.
Andrea is a former Board of Trustees member for Maine Public, Maine Community Foundation, Susan L Curtis Foundation, and Maine Coalition for Excellence in Education. She has been honored with the Crystal Heart Award by the American Heart Association (Maine Chapter), named one of four “Women to Watch” by Mainebiz in 2016, and featured in Maine Magazine’s “50 Mainers” list.
Andrea received a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Maine and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from UNH Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics.
Please join us in congratulating Andrea, FocusMaine’s new president!
